About the awards
Who is behind the awards and who can take part
What are the 1st National Sickle Cell Awards?
The awards recognise people and organisations transforming mental health and sickle cell support across Uganda. There are 65 nominations across 12 award categories.
Who organises the awards?
Mental Health Focus Uganda (MHF Uganda) organises the awards with its partners, Sickle Cell Alliance Uganda and the Rotaract Club of Kyanja.
Is voting free?
Yes. Voting is completely free. Nobody should ever ask you to pay, send mobile money or buy airtime to vote or to support a nominee. If someone does, do not pay, and let MHF know on WhatsApp.
Who can vote?
Anyone with their own email address and phone number can create a free voter account and vote.
Any further eligibility rules set by the organisers will be published in the voting guide.
When does voting open and close?
The bar at the top of every page shows whether voting is open, paused or closed right now.
The official opening and closing dates will be announced by the organisers and added to the voting guide.
Voting
How to vote, how many times, and what happens after
How do I vote?
Find a nominee on the home page or in a category and select Vote. Sign in or create a free account, enter your name and phone number, check your choice and confirm.
Your vote is saved when you see a receipt number.
Do I have to vote in all 12 categories?
No. Vote in as many or as few categories as you like. One category is fine. You can come back later to vote in others.
How many votes can I cast?
One vote per category. Each account and each phone number can be used once in every category, so you can cast up to 12 votes in total.
A nominee appears in more than one category. Can I vote for them in each?
Yes. Each category is counted separately, so a vote in one category does not affect any other.
Can I change or cancel my vote?
No. Once your receipt number is shown, the vote is final and cannot be changed or withdrawn. Please check your choice on the review step before confirming.
It says I have already voted, but I haven’t.
Each phone number can be used once per category. If someone else, for example in your household, already used the same number in that category, it cannot be used there again.
You can still vote in the other categories. If you believe something is wrong, contact MHF on WhatsApp with the category name.
My connection dropped while I was voting. Did my vote count?
Open the same nominee again. The site checks your vote status first, so a vote is never sent twice. You can also see every saved vote in My account.
Why can’t I vote right now?
Voting may be paused or closed by the organisers, for example before the official start, for maintenance or after the voting period ends. The bar at the top of the page shows the current status. Your existing votes are never affected.
What is the receipt number for?
It confirms your vote was saved. Keep it if you want to ask the organisers about a specific vote. Your receipts are always listed in My account.
Account and sign-in
Creating an account, emails, codes and passwords
Do I need a password?
No. You can sign in with a one-tap email link or a 6-digit code sent to your email. If you prefer, you can create a password of at least 12 characters; your browser or password manager can suggest a strong one.
If a Continue with Google button is shown, you can also use your Google account.
I didn’t receive the confirmation email or code.
Check your spam, junk or promotions folder, and make sure the email address is spelled correctly. Then request a new email from the sign-in form: after creating an account, choose “Already signed up but no email? Resend confirmation”. Always use the most recent email: sign-in links and codes expire after one hour.
I forgot my password.
Select Forgot password? on the sign-in form and we will email you a reset link. You can also skip the password and sign in with an email link or code instead.
It says “Too many attempts”.
To protect accounts, repeated attempts are briefly limited. Wait one minute and try again.
Results and fairness
Totals, results and how the vote is protected
Can I see how many votes each nominee has?
No. To keep the vote fair, totals are not published while voting is in progress. Only authorised organisers can see running totals.
When and how will winners be announced?
Results are announced by the organisers. How the public vote contributes to the final awards, and the date of the announcement, will be published by the organisers.
How is the vote kept fair?
Every voter needs a confirmed account. Each account and each phone number can vote only once per category, repeated attempts are temporarily limited, and saved votes cannot be edited or deleted.
Phone numbers are not verified by SMS, so these limits reduce repeat voting but cannot guarantee one vote per person. Organisers may review unusual activity and exclude votes that break the rules.
How can I support a nominee?
Vote for them, then share their profile with friends and family using the Share button on their page. Please don’t use other people’s phone numbers or create extra accounts: those votes may be excluded.
Privacy and safety
What we keep and how to stay safe
What information do you keep about me?
Your email address and account details, and the nominee and category you voted for. Your name is asked for at voting time but not stored. Your phone number is not stored in readable form: it is turned into a one-way code used only to stop the same number voting twice in a category.
Can the organisers see who I voted for?
Organisers see totals and ballot records without names, phone numbers or email addresses. You can always see your own votes in My account.
Someone asked me for my sign-in code or for money to vote.
Never share your password or sign-in code, and never pay to vote. MHF Uganda will never ask for them. Report the message to MHF on WhatsApp.

Profiles, corrections and nominations
Where can I learn about a nominee?
Select any nominee to open their profile, which shows their award category and, where available, a short profile with its source.
A nominee’s name or details are wrong.
Nominee names and categories are published as provided by the organisers. Send the correction to MHF on WhatsApp, including a link to the nominee’s page.
Can I nominate someone new?
This site is for voting on the published list of nominees. For questions about nominations, contact MHF on WhatsApp at +256 779 660 431.
